1. I have installed IE Lock but all I get is a blank page or site not allowed.
Make sure you have added your Homepage to the IE Lock Allow List.
2. Can I run this as a service instead of in the task bar system tray?
IE Lock saves its settings and uses those same settings when the system is restarted. It does not currently run as a service.
3. I can't seem to get at all the data on a page?
Some sites display data from multiple sites, so data may not appear on a page if you have not added the referenced site to IE Lock's Allow List. If a page is missing data that you feel is required, display that page with IE Lock deactivated, then with the mouse over the area of the page concerned, watch the site information line displayed in the lower corner of IE. If you want that data displayed, then you will need to add that site to the Allowed List of IE Lock as well.
4. I want to restrict a group of users using the same set of restrictions, but would like to maintain the Allow List on a central system to lower my system maintenance costs. Is this possible?
Yes, you can set up a centralized XML file and simply point your IE Lock systems at that central file. For more detail see, IE Lock server.
5. When I press OK on the Simpliciti lockdown setting screen, nothing gets saved.strong>
You need to make sure you have read write permissions on your workspace file (typically called SimplicitiLockdown.vw)
6. I want to IELock to restrict just by user, not all users?
By default IELock is installed at the windows registry level LOCAL_MACHINE. To restrict web sites at the user level you need to move the the IE lock entry there to the current_user/software/simpliciti/IELock. p>
7. My Network Printer won't work
If you need access to a network printer, enter the allow location according to the following example. 10.56.2.51 you do not need to enter ftp:10.56.2.51 or http://10.56.2.51
8. I need access to an IP address
If you need access to an IP address, enter the allow location according to the following example. 10.56.2.51 you do not need to enter ftp:10.56.2.51 or http://10.56.2.51
9. I'm using a centralized file, when does IElock check for changes
IE lock checks hourly for updates made to that file. (timed from when the process was started)
9. I'm using a centralized file, and want to test my changes ? Do I have to wait and hour?
No. If you want to test changes to the central file , then you can stop and restart this process, it checks immediately if restarted. Also note if this process is stopped the process will automatically restart if IE is restarted
