Operating system security and lockdown
Note: After program installation you may need to reboot the system to achieve full system lockdown.
Lockdown can mean multiple things.
1. The application provides lockdown. This means that while operating inside the Simpliciti Locked Browser application the user cannot access the Windows operating system. The locked user cannot exit the application (take it out of locked mode) without the admin user ID and Password. This is a standard part of the application and requires no configuration by the administrator.
Lockdown is accomplished by the application protecting the exit function, disabling the windows key, tab key and other keystrokes such as Ctrl+Alt+Del (may require a system reboot depending on the Operating system) that may allow the user to exit the Simpliciti Locked Browser application. The only way the application can be exited is by using Alt + F4 and by using the "admin" user ID and password. See the settings view for additional info on the admin user and password.
2. Locking down your web pages. The setting screen provides you with the ability to lock the application user to your site, or limit the sites they can view from your pages. This functionality is provided by using the web restriction options on the setting page.
An example of this would be setting the home page to "www.simpliciti.biz/contact.htm" and providing a restriction of "www.simpliciti.biz", you will notice that the mail (Info@simpliciti.biz) link has now been blocked.
In this case this prevents both access to other sites as well as ensures they cannot open up access to the operating system via the email option.
3. Locking down your computer at start up. Many devices operate unattended and it is desirable that they initially start in the application mode that they are intended to be used in. This eliminates the need to manually start the application and prevents access to any other windows functionality. This lockdown option is available in the setting screen and is described as Auto Start Locked Browser.
This option ensures that when the PC is restarted it will start in locked mode. (For NT, 2000 or XP it sets it for the current user.)
To access the windows desktop when started in this mode you must exit the application using (Alt + F4) and the administrator user ID and password.
